This entails driving our (t)rusty 1.2 litre
lunchbox from Oxford, UK all the way to east
Kazakhstan;
home of the majestic Borohoro Mountains,
water-skiing squirrels of the Irtysh River, and
the bustling city of Oskemen, which Wikipedia
introduces as
'the leader in Kazakhstan by the number of
people having respiratory problems and the
diseases of immune system'.
The Mongol Rally has been an
annual event since 2004, raising money for
charity ever since it's first rally with only
six teams. Since then, it has grown to around
300 teams every year.
The rally has
had a rough few years, with COVID outright
cancelling the rally for 2020 and 2021, and the
recent rallies being affected by Russia's
invasion of Ukraine. But this year it's back in
(almost) full force, and we're ready to take on
the challenge.
Although the war in Ukraine prevented the full Mongol Rally
from going ahead in 2022, we aren't a bunch that gives up
easily. Therefore, the finish line was moved to the country
of Georgia, still a mighty 12,000km round trip.
This was an expedition of epic proportions, and we have now
released our feature film showcasing the journey.
Although COVID scuppered our plans for the full-fat Mongol Rally in 2021, we did manage to partake in the Mongol Rally: Poles Of Inconvenience. This was a scaled down version, within the confines of the United Kingdom. We did still manage to make it difficult for ourselves however...
